Biography:
Shannyn Dewey obtained her masters in midwifery in 2017 from the University of New Mexico. She received her nursing degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 2007. Initially, Shannyn worked as a nurse in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) , spending time caring for children, infants and families. Her work with newborns and families while floating to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) inspired her to continue to work with newborns and their parents. Spending time as a labor and delivery nurse exposed her to the midwifery model of care. During the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, she provided out-of-hospital pregnancy and birth care in New York City at a birth center in midtown Manhattan.
She is passionate about working with patients to find the best form of contraception for their lifestyles. She enjoys working with people who are seeking sexual and reproductive health care for the first time including teenagers or folks who have been avoiding healthcare due to previous negative or traumatic experiences. Shannyn believes Midwifery care should be accessible for all families and loves to educate people about what the scope of the midwife is. Shannyn enjoys traveling, hiking with her dog, biking and participating in winter sports and is excited to be living in Montana!
