Safe Sleep
Bozeman Health’s Safe Sleep initiative is a vital program designed to educate parents and caregivers on the best practices for ensuring a safe sleep environment for infants. With the aim of reducing the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and other sleep-related incidents, this initiative provides resources and information on safe sleep practices. Families learn the importance of placing babies on their backs to sleep, utilizing firm mattresses, keeping cribs free from loose bedding and toys and other measures.

Bozeman Health's Safe Sleep
By promoting these crucial guidelines, Bozeman Health empowers caregivers to make informed choices that enhance their child’s safety during sleep. In addition to education, Bozeman Health actively engages with the community to foster awareness and support around safe sleep.
The initiative includes staff education, informational materials, and partnerships with local organizations to reach a wider audience, particularly those who may face barriers to accessing safe sleep resources. By prioritizing safe sleep practices, Bozeman Health is committed to creating a culture of safety and awareness, ultimately ensuring that every baby has the best possible start in life.

Back To Sleep & Other Safe Sleeping Tips
- Back-only positioning for all sleep starting at birth. Side positions are not recommended.
- Use a firm sleep surface in a safety-approved crib, bassinet, or play yard. In-bed sleepers are not recommended.
- Breastfeeding is protective. Exclusive is best, but any amount offers protection.
- Room-sharing is protective and safer than solitary sleep or bed-sharing.
- Keep soft objects out of the sleep area, including blankets, pillows, and stuffed toys.
- Pacifiers are protective. Offer after breastfeeding is well established (3-4 weeks).
- Avoid smoke exposure during pregnancy and after the infant is born.
- Avoid alcohol and illicit drugs during pregnancy and after the infant is born.
- Avoid overheating with clothing, high room temperatures, or covering the infant’s head during sleep.
