As summer activities ramp up across Montana, Bozeman Health and Vitalant are encouraging community members to donate blood to help ensure a stable supply is available when patients need it most. Summer is often one of the most challenging times for blood collection as busy schedules can lead to fewer donations. At the same time, hospitals see an increase in demand for blood due to emergency trauma cases associated with outdoor recreation, travel and seasonal activities. “In 2025, Bozeman Health used more than 1,300 units of blood to care for patients undergoing surgery, cancer treatment, trauma care and other medical procedures,” said Heather Wicks, director of trauma and acute care services at Bozeman Health. “Blood donations are critical to help ensure these lifesaving resources remain available for local patients.”
Community members can donate at upcoming Bozeman Health blood drives at Big Sky Medical Center on June 18 or at Deaconess Regional Medical Center on June 26. “Every blood donation has the potential to save multiple lives,” said Tori Robbins, communications manager for Vitalant. “When donors give with Vitalant, their blood can directly help patients in the Gallatin Valley, throughout Montana, or even across the nation. We are very thankful to Bozeman Health for hosting blood drives throughout the year to support their community and beyond.”
