Community volunteer event highlights partnership with Bozeman Health to keep public trails sustainable
After a winter that barely gave trails a chance to hibernate, Gallatin Valley Land Trust (GVLT) and Bozeman Health invited the community to roll up their sleeves and celebrate Earth Day with purpose. Sign-ups for the hands-on trail stewardship project at Highland Glen on Tuesday, April 21, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. quickly filled with trail enthusiasts looking to give back to one of their beloved local trails.
Bozeman Health provides public access to six miles of trails on its private property known as Highland Glen, located across Highland Boulevard from Deaconess Regional Medical Center. The expanse of interconnected trail systems covers over 142 acres of land, offering trails for walking, running, and biking for users of all ages and abilities.
“Some of the most powerful medicine doesn’t happen inside a hospital,” said Bozeman Health Chief Operating Officer Kallie Kujawa. “It happens on trails, in fresh air, and in spaces where people of all ages can move and connect. We are proud to partner with GVLT to sustain accessible community trails on our property.”
GVLT ensures the summer trail system offers an excellent user experience by designing, constructing, and maintaining the singletrack network in place today. In the winter months, the Bridger Ski Foundation grooms the trails for seasonal use.
While this event is full, community members interested in additional trail work events can find additional opportunities on GVLT’s website at https://www.gvlt.org/events, including this year’s annual National Trails Day event, which is scheduled for Saturday, May 30, at Gallatin County Regional Park.
“We are grateful to our volunteers, who join us throughout the summer to help make trails safer, more accessible, and more sustainable for everyone to enjoy,” said Lulu Herrera, GVLT Trails Project Manager.
